This is one of two overlooks along the 5 1/2 mile Brown Farm Dike Trail in the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. The Nisqually delta, where the refuge is located, is designated a National Natural Landmark. It's landmark webpage describes it as "an unusually fine example of an estuarine ecosystem, and the only natural resting area for migratory waterfowl in the southern Puget Sound region."
This overlook is build out over the edge of the river and has two binoculars for viewing the birds who are regular visitors to the area. While on the trail we saw 4 herons and a beautiful wood duck and his mate.
There is a $3 fee to use the refuge. No dogs are allowed due to the sensitivity of the area. Parking and trailhead are found at N47 04.333 W122 42.726.
