In its two main galleries, the Quincy Historical Society draws on its extensive collection of artifacts, paintings, photos and manuscripts to tell Quincy's exciting story. Quincy enjoys one of the oldest, most diverse, and richest histories in all New England.
The core exhibit reveals the long arc of Quincy's saga: its distinctive colonial heritage, the national contributions of its great patriot sons and daughters - Adams, Quincy, and Hancock; the spectacular 19th century granite stonework that changed the face of the nation and of this community; the equally spectacular 20th century shipbuilding that set standards of maritime performance and helped win the Second World War.
Special exhibits bring a focus to specific phases of Quincy's history and the specific accomplishments of Quincy's people: be it the artistry of Ruth Gordon of John Cheever, the entrepreneurship of Howard Johnson, or the pioneering educational reforms of Francis Parker.
Quincy Historical Society
Founded in 1893 by Charles Francis Adams, Jr., and other leading citizens, the Quincy Historical Society remains community-based, even as its work extends to the region and the nation. A not-for-profit organization supported by volunteer contributions, it welcomes membership by individuals, families, and businesses.

With a building designed by the Boston firm of Ware and Van Brunt and an endowment from John Adams, the Adams Academy operated as a preparatory school from 1872 to 1908. In 1972, the Quincy Historical Society restored the building and made it its home. In 1994, the Academy Building was designated a national historic
