The current courthouse was built in 1930, and is the third courthouse to stand on this site. Like most southern courthouses, the grounds of the courthouse are dotted with monuments and memorial to dedicate to area veterans. Monuments to veterans of the American Revolution, Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam stand on the courthouse lawn as reminders of Bedford's great sacrifice for the cause of freedom.
Bedford is the site of the National D-Day Memorial (
visit link) and was selected in recognition of its solemn distinction as the community sustaining the highest per capita loss of lives during the invasion of Normandy, France.
