This weather vane was designed by Thomas Jefferson to record the weather patterns of the Monticello area. A compass rose mounted on the ceiling of the front overhang has a spinning arrow directly connected to the weather vane. The residents of the home could look out of the front windows and see acurately which way the wind was blowing and record it. The weather vane is still in operation.
