The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be presented to an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. The museum of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society is on board the YORKTOWN at Patriots Point.

The Medal of Honor was introduced in 1861 to President Lincoln by Iowa Senator James W. Grimes. Since the bill was signed by President Lincoln, the Medal of Honor has carried the meaning of pure heroism to all Americans.

This captivating museum tells the story of the Country's brave warriors from the Civil War era through those honored today. Learn about famous heros like Audie Murphy, Sergeant Alvin York, Jimmie Doolittle and many more.

The permanent exhibits include memorabilia and artifacts relating to Medal of Honor recipients and archives of important documents pertaining to their heroism. The Congressional Medal of Honor Museum is also host to traveling exhibits.
