The Historic(Nathan) Boone Home is a four-story structure built between 1804 and 1810 in the Femme Osage Valley of St. Charles County.
It was the last permanent residence of Daniel Boone and was where he died in 1820.
His residence was a small cabin in the back of the present one.
Rebecca Boone NEVER lived at this house. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law near present day Dutzow, Flanders and Jamima Callaway.
The Boone home, nearly 200 years old, is large even by today's standards.
The limestone walls are 2 1/2 feet thick.
The home has seven fireplaces and a ballroom on the top floor.
Daniel Boone was denied his Spanish land grant by the Spanish Commandant in 1799, and when the area became American property, (1804) Daniel reapplied for his grant was was denied by the American Governor...both for the same reason. He was to old to work the land or care from his wife who no longer lived with him.
To appease his hurt feelings he was appointed a(judge). Daniel also did NOT make the Boone's lick trail (road). It was made by his sons (Nathan, Daniel Morgan, and Jesse).
