In 1902 the current territory of Quintana Roo was separated from Yucatan to form the Federal Territory of Quintana Roo. The Sovereign Free State was created on 8 October 1974, being Governor Attorney David G. Gutiérrez Ruiz. Until then, Quinta Roo has distinctive arms. In the Quintana Roo coat of arms are represented the State's main geographical features: warm climate (stylized sun on red), cloudless sky (star on blue field), and thick vegetation. The crest is a rising sun for Quintana Roo is the far-eastern Mexican State, then where the Mexican day begins.


En 1902, el territorio actual de Quintana Roo se separó de Yucatán para formar el Territorio Federal de Quintana Roo. El Estado Libre y Soberano se creó el 8 de octubre de 1974, siendo gobernador el fiscal David G. Gutiérrez Ruiz. Hasta entonces, Quintana Roo tenía un escudo distintivo. En el escudo de Quintana Roo están representadas las principales características geográficas del estado: clima cálido (sol estilizado sobre fondo rojo), cielo despejado (estrella sobre fondo azul) y vegetación espesa. La cresta es un sol naciente, ya que Quintana Roo es el estado más oriental de México, donde comienza el día mexicano.
