[FR] "Langlois est représenté à l’âge de 65 ans, son carnet de croquis et un crayon dans les mains. Le piédestal est supporté par deux degrés : sur la face antérieure se trouve une fontaine jaillissante composée d’une stèle surmontée d’une gueule de lion en bronze déversant de l’eau dans une vasque. Localisation à l’origine : Beaumont-en-Auge, place Langlois (Calvados)

Jean-Charles Langlois, dit Le colonel, né le 22 juillet 1789 à Beaumont-en-Auge et mort en 1870 à Paris, est un militaire et peintre français.

1885 : inauguration de la statue le 30 aou^t, face à la maison natale de l’artiste-soldat. Elle est offerte par Madame de Serand, nièce du colonel. Elle avait également offert à la commune des bornes fontaines et un système d’adduction d’eau. Le don de la statue ne pouvait dès lors que susciter l’enthousiasme des habitants de Beaumont-en-Auge. 1942-44 : l’oeuvre est fondue sous le régime de Vichy."

Jean-Charles Langlois, known as Le Colonel, born July 22, 1789 in Beaumont-en-Auge and died in 1870 in Paris, was a French soldier and painter.

1885: The statue was unveiled on August 30, opposite the artist-soldier's birthplace. It was donated by Madame de Serand, the colonel's niece. She had also given the town fountains and a water supply system. The gift of the statue was bound to arouse enthusiasm among the inhabitants of Beaumont-en-Auge. 1942-44: The work was melted down during the Vichy regime."
