Toen rond 1900 de grond naast de Martinuskerk vrij kwam, is deze aangekocht door het toenmalig kerkbestuur. Hiermee ging een langgekoesterde wens in vervulling: het realiseren van een eigen kerkhof naast de kerk. De eerste begrafenissen vonden zo rond 1905 plaats. In de jaren negentig is besloten om de begraafplaats uit te breiden, hierbij is ook de hoofdingang verlegd naar de zijkant waar je hem nu kan vinden.
Het kerkhof was lang uitsluitend bestemd voor de mensen die behoorden bij de Martinusparochie. Lopend langs de vele graven zijn de achternamen te lezen, die van oudsher voorkomen in het dorp. Sinds het ontstaan van de parochie Onze Lieve Vrouw van Amersfoort kunnen al haar parochianen, hun partners en gezinsleden én katholieken van buiten de gemeente Amersfoort hier worden begraven of bijgezet.
When the land next to the Martinuskerk became available around 1900, it was purchased by the church council at the time. This fulfilled a long-cherished wish: to create a cemetery next to the church. The first burials took place around 1905. In the 1990s, it was decided to expand the cemetery, which also involved moving the main entrance to the side where it can now be found.
For a long time, the cemetery was exclusively reserved for members of the Martinus parish. Walking past the many graves, you can read the surnames that have traditionally been found in the village. Since the establishment of the parish of Our Lady of Amersfoort, all its parishioners, their partners and family members, as well as Catholics from outside the municipality of Amersfoort, can be buried or interred here.
