"The church dedicated to Saint Agatha was built in 1504. In 1670, it was replaced by a larger one on the same site. It appears that the 1504 church was partially demolished, and the surviving part was incorporated into the 1670 building.

In 1894, the high altar was restored, and the marble statue of Saint Agatha was raised on a high pedestal. Between 1912 and 1913, other works were carried out to beautify the church, including the bell tower to the right of the façade and two side rooms that served as sacristy.

Between 1957 and 1961, structural alterations were carried out. In addition to restoring all the side walls of the nave, two small side chapels were added. In 1957, the chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was added, followed by a smaller one dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle in 1960 to commemorate the 19th Centenary of the Apostle's Shipwreck on the Island.

Later, an underground crypt was excavated in the chamber to the right of the main altar. It contains the remains of the Servant of God Joseph De Piro, founder of the Missionary Society of St. Paul, and deceased members of the MSSP."
