The Sint Joriskerk is the oldest national monument in the city of Amersfoort. The church was built in the eleventh century as a court chapel on behalf of the bishops of Utrecht. The Romanesque brick tower of St. George's Church is the oldest part of the church and dates from around 1200. The tower was raised at the end of the 15th century with a Gothic bell floor, and the church was built around the tower. Just above the roofline, the Romanesque arches are clearly visible.
