There's not much to be found about this cemetery, but given the number of early burials of Hart family members, this was probably a family cemetery, open to friends and neighbors, and it has become a community burial ground.

Wieland is a small community a few miles southeast of here, and we're fortunate to have some history, recorded in 1964 by Elveta Phillips as Fading Moments Recorded. The narrative notes three cemeteries in Wieland, one of which was Hart Cemetery. That cemetery appears to be lost, but she does mention this one and notes that both had burials for members of the same family. A capture of the pertinent section, preserved by RootsWeb can be found in the gallery.

Likely candidates for the proverbial family patriarch and cemetery namesake (and likely landowner) are Josiah Cyrus Hart (1826-1882) and Ransom Prior Hart (1825-1878), whose wife Mary (1822-1886) is also buried here. Findagrave (see below) has a listing for Euclid Ritchey, who was born and who died in 1851, while the earliest death dates to be found on a headstone are for Cynthe Ann Taylor (June 1, 1855) and John Taylor (December 10, 1859). There is evidence of past vandalism, but signs at both entrances note observation by cameras, and the grounds are very well-maintained. The north section has many contemporary burials where family members have been very creative with decoration to express their love for those who has passed on.

There's a parking area in front of the main gate, where a small tabernacle poses as a lichgate in front of the pedestrian entrance, and one can also find a few places to park near the gate facing Hunt County Rd 2208.
