[EN] "Begun in 1273, this Gothic building was completed at the end of the 19th century, a period spanning six centuries. The Flamboyant Gothic Saint-Jean portal is particularly magnificent under night lighting. Inside is a richly decorated Renaissance rood screen. The building remains one of the few great Gothic monuments south of the Loire. Following an excavation campaign in the summer of 2005, an exceptional baptistery, one of the largest in France, was discovered at the foot of the cathedral. A listed historic monument.
Cathedral built of granite. Known as one of the most beautiful ogival cathedrals in southern France; the first religious building in the 3rd century was built by Saint-Martial, then a basilica dedicated to Saint-Étienne in the 5th century; a Romanesque cathedral in the 11th century where Richard the Lionheart was confirmed Duke of Aquitaine in 1169."
