[FR] "Pont médiéval dit "à becs", construit en appareil de granit sur les fondations du vieux pont romain antique qui faisait commu-niquer Augustoritum avec la rive gauche. Il était situé dans la continuité du cardo maximus, axe de la ville romaine, un peu en amont d'un gué gaulois.
A son entrée rive droite, un calvaire du XIIIe siècle, qui se trouvait à l'origine au milieu du pont.
Le pont Saint-Martial a été pendant plus de 1200 ans le seul pont sur la Vienne. Il a donné naissance à un quartier populaire à la forte identité, aujourd'hui réhabilité, peuplé de "Ponticauds" à l'accent très particulier. Molière, venu en tournée en 1649 à Limoges, aurait séjourné, selon la tradition, au 7 place Sainte-Félicité."
