The
Handbook of Texas Online provides some community history:
Donelton, on Farm Road 1567 fifteen miles southeast of Greenville in extreme southeastern Hunt County, was probably established within ten years after the end of the Civil War, as a post office opened there in 1871. By 1885 the community had a gristmill and a cotton gin. Five years later it had a population of seventy-five, a school, and a church. The community reported no population or business statistics after 1900. Around 1970 a church still stood at Donelton.
This could have been the 1890 church, and presumably, that one was the same one present in 1970, but there's not much to be found about it online. They're active on Facebook, and they're listed by the Hunt Baptist Association, but despite "SBC" in the Facebook URL and a mention in a 2020 Facebook post, they don't turn up on a search of the Southern Baptist Convention's site: There was a listing at one time, as noted by a web-spidered search result, so they've likely disassociated. There could be an older sanctuary under that brick -- Facebook photos of the interior look very contemporary -- but otherwise, it looks fairly modern, maybe constructed or covered in the 1970s or later. Besides a few residences, this is all that remains of Donelton: The Donelton Cemetery is about a mile northwest of here, and one wonders if this church and the aforementioned school, as well as any of the businesses, were originally there.
