One of the most delightful features along the woodland paths is a sculpture trail of carved wooden animals—including owls, badgers, and squirrels—seemingly appearing overnight in early winter 2019. These whimsical, hand-carved creatures are scattered along both the upper and lower paths, crafted directly from standing tree trunks and often situated in clearings where they catch dappled light.
Locals say they resemble “mini totems” and evoke a magical woodland narrative within the city. The origins of the artists remain anonymous; it’s unclear whether they had official permission or acted independently, but the carvings are now beloved and freely accessible day and night.
This specific one was placed really close to the public road, so a passerby won't even need to enter the gardens to appreciate it. The wooden was carved to shape a perfect badger, pretty much in real life scale.
