"Wilbur M. Godsey
October 7, 1927 - October 1, 2016

"Mr. Wilbur M. Godsey, 88, of Troy, MO, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016. He was born on October 7, 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee, a child of Paul and Ollie (Smith) Godsey. Wilbur grew up in Caruthersville, MO, and worked on the Mississippi River along with his father and brother. After attending the local schools, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country. In 1947, he married Pearl Smith in the state of Indiana, the couple then moved to St. Louis, MO. Upon their arrival, he began a long career at Carter Carburetor Company. Wilbur was a Blue Lodge Mason, Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. Upon his retirement he moved to Troy. He was an avid fisherman and fished often at Lake Taneycomo. Wilbur loved to BBQ, watch the St. Louis Cardinals, and to put in a vegetable garden. Most of all, Wilbur loved spending time with his family. He was very close to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was so proud of all of them. Wilbur will be remembered lovingly by all those who knew him.

"He is survived by his three daughters: Wilda Staufer of Troy, Linda and husband, Newt Vanderford of Kansas City, Deborah and husband, Jack Wagner of Troy; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother; Harry and wife Mary Godsey of Larimore, ND; two sisters: Dorothy Jones of Bevier, MO, and May Dean Smith, sister-in-law: Eva Godsey and many other relatives and friends.

"Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Paul D. Godsey, Bud Godsey, and J.D. Godsey, grandson, Jason Damron, and great-granddaughter, Julie Ann." ~ McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home
