EN: The church of St. Peter and Paul stands in the village center of Erschwil, separated from the main street by a creek.

The nave has four rows of windows and is closed off by a polygonal chancel. Between the nave and chancel, the sacristy is attached on the south side and the church tower with a pyramid roof on the north side.

The church was originally founded in the 13th century. In the 19th century, it became too small and was also dilapidated. In 1844, it was decided to rebuild it. In 1847, the construction of a neoclassical church began and it was consecrated in 1850.

In 1860, the parish was able to buy a Brosy organ from 1788 and install it in the church. After a hundred years, it was in poor condition and was replaced by a new one. The original parts were put into storage. In 2011, the organ was restored and reinstalled in the church in Erschwil. It is the best-preserved organ by Johann Jacob Brosy that still exists. Today it is also used regularly for concerts.


DE: Die Kirche St. Peter und Paul steht, durch einen Bach von der Hauptstrasse getrennt, im Dorfzentrum von Erschwil.

Das Langhaus hat vier Fendterreihen und ist durch einen polygonalen Chor abgeschlossen. Zwischen Langhaus und Chor sind an der Südseite die Sakristei und an der Nordseite der Kirchturm mit einem Pyramidendach angebaut.

Die Kirche wurde ursprünglich im 13. Jahrhundert gegründet. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde sie zu klein und war ausserdem baufällig. 1844 wurde beschlossen, sie neu zu bauen. 1847 wurde der Bau einer klassizistischen Kirche begonnen und 1850 wurde sie eingeweiht.

1860 konnte die Gemeinde eine Brosy-Orgel von 1788 kaufen und in der Kirche aufstellen. Nach hundert Jahren war sie in einem schlechten Zustand und wurde durch eine neue ersetzt. Die Originalteile wurden eingelagert. 2011 wurde die Orgel restauriert und wieder in der Kirche von Erschwil eingebaut. Es ist die am besten erhaltene Orgel von Johann Jacob Brosy, die noch existiert. Heute wird sie auch regelmässig für Konzerte genutzt.
