"In March 2007, Breton artist Luc Le Mercier installed his sculpture in Hayange, depicting two miners and a steelworker against the backdrop of the blast furnaces.

Quite symbolic for this small town in Lorraine, devastated since the steelworks shut down.

"I love iron and its rust; it represents the past, it takes over the present, and awaits the future.
It enchants me with its colors and thrills me."
Luc Le Mercier

This statue depicts two miners and a steelworker, hard at work, carrying steel. Rust is beginning to eat away at part of the work, while the blast furnaces, visible in the background, still take over the present. But Le Mercier's words are not strictly adhered to: iron no longer awaits a future; in Hayange, it no longer has one. It's a symbol for the Moselle working-class town, tormented since the steelworks closed."
