"The then Church of St. Julian, like many buildings in the Maltese Islands, suffered significant damage from the 1693 earthquake. Therefore, the decision to build the current church was made in 1699. Lorenzo Gafà was responsible for drawing up the plans, and the current building was completed and made available for use in 1712.

Fortunately, the church survived the Second World War virtually unscathed, although most of the surrounding buildings were reduced to piles of stone by the destructive enemy bombs.

The main façade is dominated by a large, semicircular doorway with a frame, preceded by a short flight of steps and crowned by a pediment. A square window sits directly above it, while the top of the elevation is delimited by a cornice and pediment. Two other distinctive elements are the coat of arms of Bishop Davide Cocco Palmieri, located above the doorway, and the statue of St. Paul adorning the right-hand corner."
