Deceased Name: Riley Morawitz, Center, April 23, 1935 - Jan. 7, 2004
"CENTER - Riley Morawitz, 68, of Center, died at 4:31 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis.

"Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Olivet Christian Church in Center. The Revs. Drew Sutor, Tom Day and Roger Huff will officiate. Burial will be at Center Cemetery.

"Mr. Morawitz was born April 23, 1935, in Hannibal to Edward G. and Nadine Riley Morawitz.

"He was married to Kathryn Haden on Sept. 26, 1954, in New London. She survives.

"Other survivors include his father of Center; two sons, Edward Riley Morawitz Jr. of Hannibal and Jon Morawitz of Columbia; one daughter, Lorie Newton of Snohomish, Wash.; one brother, Dan Morawitz of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one sister, Jane Yates of Lakeland, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

"He was preceded in death by his mother; and one sister, Janice Akers. Mr. Morawitz was a lifetime area resident and member of the Olivet Christian Church. He was a farmer and he and his wife owned and operated their own excavating company for 27 years. He was a 1952 graduate of Center High School. He had been a member of Pipefitters Local 562 since 1968. He was also a member of the Center Lions Club, the Community Betterment Association and the Hannibal Amateur Radio Club. He was very active in community affairs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with computers and his morning coffee visits. He served in the U.S. Army from April 12, 1957, to April 11, 1963, and attained the rank of staff sergeant.
