THE CHURCH:
Koepelkerk
Built in 1639-1641 by order of the Lord of Renswoude. Classicist church by architect Jacob van Campen: above a Greek cross as ground plan rests a dome on eight lonian columns. Early example of Protestant church building: one sits compactly around God's Word. Inside, the dome is decorated with coats of arms of orders and princes, who supported church construction. There are funeral plates of the barons and baronesses buried in the crypt. The consistory was built in 1855. The church is in use by the Reformed Congregation (PKN). (Info: ANWB sign)
The Koepelkerk is a national monument and is owned by the Hervormde gemeente van Renswoude (PKN). Masses are held there on Sundays and Christian holidays. Gebouwd in 1639-1641 in opdracht van de Heer van Renswoude. Classicistische kerk van architect Jacob van Campen: boven een Grieks kruis als grondplan rust een koepel op acht lonische zuilen. Vroeg voorbeeld van protestantse kerkbouw: men zit compact rondom Gods Woord. Inwendig is de koepel verfraaid met wapens van orden en vorsten, die de kerkbouw stunden. Er hangen rouwborden van de baronnen en baronessen die in de grafkelder zijn bijgezet. De consistorie is in 1855 aangebouwd. De kerk is in gebrik bij de Hervormde Gemeente (PKN). (Info: ANWB bord)
