In de Amerikaanse staat Minnesota komen Sioux indianen in opstand omdat de overheid in gebreke blijft bij het uitbetalen van geld voor een landverdrag. De Dakota Sioux, beroofd van hun land en geteisterd door honger en ellende, verwoesten complete dorpen en doden 77 soldaten en mogelijk 800 settlers. De oorlog staat bekend als The Dakota War of 1862, The Sioux Uprising, The Dakota Uprising en The Sioux Outbreak of 1862. De meeste indianen zouden zich in september 1862 overgeven na een ongelijke strijd.

De Verenigde Staten raakten officieel betrokken bij de Vietnamoorlog na het incident in de Golf van Tonkin in augustus 1964. In maart 1965 begon de VS met een aanhoudende luchtbombardementencampagne tegen Noord-Vietnamese troepen. Tegen het einde van 1965 waren naar schatting 184.300 Amerikaanse troepen het land binnengekomen.

The United States officially entered the Vietnam War following the Gulf of Tonkin incident in August 1964. In March 1965, the US started a sustained aerial bombardment campaign against North Vietnamese forces. By the end of 1965, an estimated 184,300 US troops had entered the country.
