This was the home of Cardinal de Jong.
He chose Dominus mihi adjutor (From Psalm 118:7 - The Lord is my helper) as his motto. His coat of arms features the waxing moon from the coat of arms of Ameland (his birthplace).
The House with the Purple Windows owes its name to the manganese in the glass, which turns purple when exposed to light. The merchant's house was built around 1780 for Benjamin Cohen (1725-1800), a banker and administrator within the Jewish community of Amersfoort.
