The Grant Depot (and associated Water Tower) were constructed in 1891 for the Chicago and West Michigan Railroad and quickly became a major hub of commerce as Grant shipped timber and agricultural products by rail. Until the 1940s there were also two passenger trains through here each day. In 1979 the depot was rebuilt to serve as a restaurant. The agents office and waiting room became a dining room. The freight room, became a kitchen, and an addition on the east side serves as an additional dining room. The nearby Water Tower Park hosts the only remaining wooden water tower in the state and a yellow "Chessie Systems" caboose.
