Millennium Arch was commissioned to New York City sculptor Edwina Sandys; this was her third work to be displayed in Missouri. The sculpture, which is in two parts, was carved by high-pressure water jets courtesy of the UMR High Pressure Water Jet Lab, is formed of five pieces of native Missouri granite. The main sculpture is a free-standing arch formed as a trilithon (meaning "three stones") where the two supporting stones evoke the forms of man and woman. An information plaque nearby provides additional details.
