This is the Cannon Family Cemetery. The land settled by Joseph Cannon in 1811, as a 180-acre farm. Through he years the cemetery was laid out, and fenced and cared for as loved one passed away. The farm was increased to over 600-acres.
The family gradually died out, and the family descendants sold the land to St. Charles County Parks Department and in 2006 it was made into a county park, 603 acres. The two creeks provide beaches in the summer and there are many amenities.
Back to the cemetery. The county erected a marker to the family history, but otherwise abandoned the plot of ground. Today, it is overgrown and unkept.
AND the trees need feeding, so they, at least this one, took to eating the wrought iron fence.
