The Allt Sheicheachan is the name given to a small stream flowing down south-westwards from the mountain of Beinn Dearg in the Highlands of Perthshire into the large area of desolate moorland known as the Forest of Atholl. An estate track used as the main route to ascending the mountain, runs north-westwards from Blair Castle, initially along Glen Banvie, before striking northwards to cross the moorland before reaching the Allt Sheicheachan. The final part of the track heads downhill, and this obscures the view of the bothy until the last few hundred yards.
The bothy was originally built, probably in the 19th century, as a stalker's hut and stables, and has since been maintained by the Mountain Bothies Association. It features one main room, with a fireplace, table, and two bunks with floor mats. A separate entrance gains access to another room, probably used for storage, but with a floored loft that can be used for another bed.
The bothy is around seven miles from the Bridge of Tilt car park just north of Blair Atholl and has been in use for many seeking the remoter mountains to the north of the A9 road in Perthshire.
