Omar Khawa became famous as an icon of the horrors of chemical warfare, specially against civilians. On that day of March Halabja was initially bombed with conventional ammo from artillery and then the airplanes dropped the canisters containing chemical agents which decimated the population. When the day was over around 5.000 persons lay dead on the streets and houses of Halabja.

The statue is based on photographs taken by journalists shortly after the attack and it's located on the grounds of Halabja Memorial, which is composed by a museum shaped like a memorial and several assorted elements displayed around it, like this statue and another one representing one photographer.
It's made of a metallic league, in really life scale, and represents exactly what was documented in images: Omar Khawa, dead, laying on the ground embracing his baby daughter, also dead, seeking useless protection against a street wall.
