[FR] "Le monument commémoratif aux morts de Toulon se dresse face au palais de Justice. Le sculpteur Honoré Sausse est le lauréat du concours lancé par le comité du monument constitué dès la fin de la guerre. Sa réalisation va s'échelonner entre août 1924 et juin 1925 et son inauguration aura lieu le 28 juin 1925. Sa composition est originale, en pyramide à trois niveaux, précédée de deux volées d'escalier. Le monument présente, sur un bloc rectangulaire, un alignement de sept Poilus et marins surmontés d'une femme voilée. Appuyée à un massif rectangulaire, elle étend les bras au-dessus de deux chutes de laurier qui s'écoulent sur les bords du massif. Elle tient, sur le bras gauche, un bouclier, ce qui permet de la désigner comme l'allégorie de la France, affligée devant ses morts. Il s'agit d'une ?uvre atypique par sa monumentalité ainsi que son dépouillement."

[EN] "The Toulon war memorial stands opposite the Palais de Justice. The sculptor Honoré Sausse won the competition launched by the monument committee set up at the end of the war. It was completed between August 1924 and June 1925, and inaugurated on June 28, 1925. Its composition is original, in the form of a three-level pyramid, preceded by two flights of stairs. On a rectangular block, the monument features an alignment of seven Poilus and sailors, surmounted by a veiled woman.
