EN: This wayside cross stands on the southern edge of Attenschwiller at a junction.
The stone cross is around five meters high and bears a lifelike painted figure of Jesus. The arms of the cross have artificial branch trunks to make it look more like wood, but this does not work at all.
The cross is not dated. However, most of the dated crosses with artificial branches that I have seen in the area date from the period when Alsace was part of the German Empire, i.e. 1871 to 1918. I suspect that this cross also dates from this period.
FR: Cette croix de chemin se trouve à la limite sud d'Attenschwiller, à une bifurcation.
La croix en pierre mesure environ cinq mètres de haut et porte une figure de Jésus peinte de manière réaliste. Les bras de la croix ont des troncs de branches artificiels pour lui donner l'apparence du bois, mais cela ne fonctionne pas du tout.
La croix n'est pas datée. Mais la plupart des croix datées avec des branches artificielles que j'ai vues dans la région datent de l'époque où l'Alsace faisait partie de l'Empire allemand, c'est-à-dire de 1871 à 1918. Je suppose que cette croix date également de cette époque.

Das Steinkreuz ist rund fünf Meter hoch und trägt eine lebensecht bemalte Jesus-Figur. Die Arme des Kreuzes haben künstliche Astgabelrümpfe, um es mehr nach Holz aussehen zu lassen, was aber überhaupt nicht funktioniert.
Das Kreuz ist nicht datiert. Die meisten datierten Kreuze mit künstlichen Ästen, die ich in der Gegend gesehen habe, stammen aber aus der Zeit, in der das Elsass zum Deutschen Reich gehörte, also 1871 bis 1918. Ich vermute, dieses Kreuz stammt auch aus dieser Zeit.
