[ENG] The tunnel is located under the Kowarska Pass, between the villages of Kowary and Ogorzelec. It was crossed by railway line no. 308, which connected Zielona Góra and Kamienna Góra. It is 1025 m long and is one of the longest tunnels in Poland.
The first train passed through this tunnel in June 1905 after 4 years of construction. At first, it was used only by steam locomotives, and in 1932 it was electrified.
After World War II, the traction network was dismantled and steam locomotives returned to the line. The last train passed through here in the late 1980s.
The tunnel is shaped like an arch, which means that none of the entrances can be seen from the middle inside. In addition, water pours from the ceiling, which disappears under the floor. Despite this, the tunnel can be used to get to the other side without any problems. There are plans to renovate it and restore rail traffic.
