Ivan Ribar, Croatian lawyer and politician (Vukmanic near Karlovac, 21 January 1881 – Zagreb, 2 February 1968). He studied law in Zagreb, Prague and Vienna, and received his doctorate in 1904 in Zagreb. He was politically active from an early age, becoming a lawyer in 1905. In 1913, he was elected as a representative of the Croatian-Serbian coalition in the Croatian Parliament and participated in the work of the joint parliament in Pest. As a supporter of the unification of the South Slavs, in 1918 he became a member of the Executive Committee of the National Council in Zagreb. He was one of the founders of the Democratic Party, and from 1920 to 1922, he was the president of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. After being expelled from the Democratic Party and the United Opposition in 1938, he advocated the creation of the Popular Front, and in 1939 he participated in the organization of the Society of Friends of the USSR, and was its president.

He was the president of the Executive Board of AVNOJ from 1942, president of the Presidium of the Constituent Assembly from 1945, and after the adoption of the constitution, president of the National Assembly of the FNRJ (1946–53). He collaborated in many newspapers and political magazines. His most important works are: Croatian-Serbian Relations in the Past (1939), Political Notes (I–IV, 1948–52), From My Political Cooperation (1965).
