Remains of the medieval church that underlie this 18th-century school and the wall.
The church disappeared in the fire, and several hands later built a school.
The orange-hued school was on the verge of closing, but now the number of students and teachers has grown.
Next to the funicular station.

"Tittel: Martinskirken, Kirkested
Sognekirke, nevnt første gang 1276, men kan være eldre. I 1525 nevnes et "koppehospital" i tilknytning til kirken. I bruk som tysk sognekirke frem til 1702 da den brant. Sto som ruin til 1722. Kirkegården i 1750 utvidet mot S, i bruk frem til 1839. Tomten ryddet i 1872 ved byggearbeider ved skolen. Steinmateriale fra kirken brukt i byggingen av skolen og i kirkegårdsmur."

Parish church, first mentioned in 1276, but may be older. In 1525 a "smallpox hospital" is mentioned in connection with the church. In use as a German parish church until 1702 when it burned. Stood as a ruin until 1722. The cemetery in 1750 extended towards the S, in use until 1839. The site was cleared in 1872 for construction work on the school. Stone material from the church used in the construction of the school and in the cemetery wall."
