This pillar stands on the 481 metre high Peat Hill in the Braes of Angus, the southern foothills of the higher Grampians to the north, the line of which runs north-eastwards above the fertile plain of Strathmore. Despite its remote location, the pillar now lies adjacent to a relatively new estate track that runs across the top of the moorland between summits. The pillar is in good condition and benefits from a panoramaic view southwards over the lowlands.
STEEPNESS: A stiff, but shortish climb up onto the ridge, thereafter a gentler gradient.
TERRAIN: Grassy hillside, followed by heather higher up, before a track to the pillar.
ACCESSIBILITY: A minor narrow dead-end road runs westwards from Bridgend at the foot of Glen Lethnot. From here it is just over a mile to the pilar up the hillside.
NAVIGATION: A faint track offers the quickest way to the hilltop from the road just west of the entrance to Tillyarblet Farm. This track climbs the hill westwards until reaching the first of various fences and gates to be crossed in a north-westerly direction until gaining the track at the top of the col between Peat Hill and Berry Cairn to the east. Head west along the track with a fence to the left to reach the pillar on the opposite side of the fence at a dog-leg to the right of both fence and track.
DANGER: Fences and gates to be crossed on the ascent of the hillside. Prime grouse shooting country in the late summer.
