Mudhafaria Minaret, better known as Choli [mainland] Minaret, is one of the most popular landmarks in the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. It's located on the grounds of one of the main city parks, Minara park, and access to the minaret is free as long as the park is open.

Close to the structure there is a historical marker in metal, with a text in English, Kurdish and Arabic. What follows is the English version of it:

"The building dates back to the era of Atebkin, who had power in (1190 -1232) in the city of Erbil.
Choly Minaret is known as Muzalaryain [unreadable] to the Great King MuzafarulDeen the governor of the city at that tune. The Minaret is the remnant of a mosque the does not exist at the present time, distinguished with its remarkable artistic design. It is considered as one of the most beautiful Minarets in Irak built on octagonal base. Every side of it has been ornamented with Islamic inscriptions and decorations and having the name of Prophet Mohammed (Prayer and Peace be upon him) engraved on as well. The height of the Minaret Base is 15 meters and the height of its cylinder is 22.10 meters so the entire height of the Minaret will be 37.10 meters.
The Minaret has one door and two spiral stairs; the ascended and descended people cannot see each other. The entire Minaret is made of baked clay and plaster with blue burned ceramic for decoration. The name of the builder (Megsaoudi Muhammed) has been also engraved en its, walls to document this historical artistic work."
