"Santa María de Castromaior was built towards the end of the 12th century. It is a modest-sized structure that falls within the group of rural Romanesque buildings in Lugo. The structure has not undergone major renovations throughout its history, except for the body of the apse, which was rebuilt. It retains its original floor plan and various architectural elements from its Romanesque past, some as significant as the doorway, the triumphal arch, and the loopholes, which open into the walls of the nave. The church has a single-nave plan ending in a rectangular apse, lower and smaller, with a gabled wooden roof, stepped only in the apse. The masonry of the walls is made of regular ashlar, very elongated and of variable size, arranged mostly in horizontal rows of string and header, with the one located at the corners being larger. The original materials can still be seen on the main façade."
