"The La Galera building is attached to the entire length of the Almohad wall that connects the wall of the Alcazaba of Badajoz with the Espantaperros Tower, which is accessed from the interior.

The La Galera building was built in the 16th century. It has had several uses: the town granary, a women's prison (hence its name), Badajoz Town Hall, a hospice, a school, and, between 1938 and 1989, together with the surrounding gardens, the Provincial Archaeological Museum.

It is an elongated building, measuring 30 by 17 meters on each side, with a single vaulted nave divided into three parts by four-column arcades, with capitals partly from Roman and Visigothic buildings.

Its façade displays several coats of arms and coats of arms of the city. Its portal is that of the former seminary of San Atón, and the coat of arms above it is one of the oldest in the city (dating around 1536)."
