Door of the Convent Church of Our Lady of Mercy, made of double-leaf wood with two smaller doors for ease of use and maintenance.

Popularly known as Las Descalzas, it was founded by the bishop of Badajoz of the Mercedarian order, Fray Simón de Sousa, in 1317. Construction on the new convent was not completed until 1700, thanks to the support of the distinguished prelate Marín de Rodezno.
The convent, which was much larger than it is today, was auctioned off for three-fifths of its size during the confiscation of church property.
Inside, the church has a single nave with a double choir stall at the foot, covered with a barrel vault. The main altar is presided over by the Virgin of Mercy. On the sides, two magnificent 18th-century altarpieces contain images of Christ of the Thorn and Our Lady of Bitterness. The outstanding image of the Nazarene, from the 17th or 18th century, is highly venerated in the city and owes its name to an authentic thorn from Christ's crown, preserved in the convent in a vault. A 17th-century silver reliquary recognized by the Papal Bull of Pope Clement XIV in 1774.
