"The Carmelite Convent is also called the Convent of Our Lady of the Angels.
It was founded by Bishop Amador Merino Magulla in 1733, who proposed embracing the Constitutions of the Discalced Carmelites to the blessed women who had been living in the Beguinage of Our Lady of the Angels for several years.
During the first half of the 17th century, the "Beguinage of Our Lady of the Angels" or "Saint Anthony" existed on this site. It only had a small chapel and a single altar.
By the beginning of the 18th century, the convent church had already been built.

The church displays uniformity in its architectural elements, as its entire construction dates from the second third of the 18th century. Its greatest attraction lies in the chapel, a small building with a secluded choir stall at its foot, completely covered with profound popular Baroque pictorial decoration, replete with fine altarpieces, images, panels, reference books, and other materials, all lovingly maintained by the community.

This convent is considered the finest late Baroque complex in Badajoz."
