"Exteriormente, la catedral está construida a modo de fortaleza, para dotarle de seguridad debido a las continuas guerras que padecía la ciudad.
Su construcción se inició tras la conquista de Badajoz por el rey Alfonso IX, en el siglo XIII.
El edificio está coronado de almenas y tiene una alta torre de planta cuadrangular, con ventanales en el segundo cuerpo. Tiene tres puertas de entrada, la principal es la de San Juan Bautista, está coronada por la imagen del santo.
Interiormente tiene planta basilical con tres naves de cinco tramos, crucero y cabecera de tres ábsides. Cubierta de bóvedas del gótico decadente".

"Externally, the cathedral is built like a fortress, to provide security due to the city's constant wars.
Its construction began after the conquest of Badajoz by King Alfonso IX in the 13th century.
The building is crowned with battlements and has a tall, quadrangular tower with large windows on the second floor. It has three entrances; the main one is the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, crowned by an image of the saint.
Interiorly, it has a basilica plan with three five-bay naves, a transept, and a chancel with three apses. It is covered with decadent Gothic vaults."
