"Construido a finales del siglo XVIII por iniciativa del Capitán General y Corregidor de la ciudad don Carlos de Wite y Pau, en sustitución de las antiguas casas consistoriales existentes en la Plaza Alta. Junto a la Catedral, el edificio preside la Plaza de San Juan. En su fachada, de vocación clasicista destaca un cuerpo avanzado con arquerías en el piso bajo, sobre el que se sitúa una terraza abalconada con seis columnas de orden toscano y ancho cornisamento por encima. El conjunto presenta un ritmo compositivo equilibrado y armónico, configurado por las series de balcones y ventanas, cornisas, y demás elementos formales propios del lenguaje arquitectónico de la época. El edificio se remata con coronamiento abalaustrado sobre el que sobresale un pequeño campanil de hierro forjado correspondiente a la sonreía del reloj, dispuesto en las postrimerías del siglo pasado."

"Built in the late 18th century at the initiative of the Captain General and Corregidor of the city, Don Carlos de Wite y Pau, to replace the old town hall in the Plaza Alta. Next to the Cathedral, the building presides over the Plaza de San Juan. Its Classicist façade features a forward-facing body with arches on the ground floor, above which sits a balconied terrace with six Tuscan columns and a wide cornice above. The whole presents a balanced and harmonious compositional rhythm, shaped by the series of balconies and windows, cornices, and other formal elements characteristic of the architectural language of the period. The building is crowned with a balustrade crowning atop which stands a small wrought iron bell tower corresponding to the face of the clock, installed at the end of the last century."
