A Luther man has been accused of shooting a woman's dogs while she was grocery shopping last Sunday. The dogs were killed outside the town's Dollar General store on Highway 66 near Luther Road.

No one knows 38-year-old Kevin Schrimsher’s motives for allegedly killing the dogs. He denied the act to the police. However, officers who spoke to him said Schrimsher smelled like alcohol and had a gun in his truck.

A Dollar General employee said the owner left the dogs outside while she went into the store to shop.

911 Caller: “They were tied to the gas meter on the side of the building where we don’t have any cameras at.”

The store manager called 911 after hearing gunshots from the side of the store.

911 Caller: “I believe we just had somebody shoot and kill two pit bulls on the side of my building.”

An employee told police that prior to the shooting, Schrimsher went into the store to ask who owned the dogs.

Employees said the dogs were not aggressive, but Schrimsher responded by saying, "I'll take care of it then."

A short time later, the employees heard gunshots.

911 Caller: “Trying to make it to where nobody is freaking out, no customers know.”

Court documents indicated Schrimsher was still at the store when officers arrived. They noted the man smelled like alcohol and an officer found a gun in the suspect's truck along with an opened bottle of whiskey and beer cans. Police arrested Schrimsher the following day after impounding his truck.

Schrimsher was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center for animal cruelty and firearm-related complaints.
