"The convent church of Santa Marina was rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century with the intention of joining the noble residence of the Suárez de Figueroa family. The church and the passageway that connects it to the Palace were executed by master builders from Madrid and stonemasons from Extremadura, who followed the aesthetic guidelines of Juana Dormer, the first Duchess of Feria.

In 1601, Margarita Harrington, a cousin and friend of Doña Juana Dormer (wife of Don Gómez Suárez de Figueroa, the first Duke of Feria), died in Madrid. Doña Margarita, having been widowed by Don Benito de Cisneros, a prominent member of the court, decided to bequeath her possessions to a convent that would grant her ownership of the main chapel where she planned to be buried with her two children. The Duchess of Feria, aware of her cousin's last wishes, had little difficulty convincing her to donate them to the convent of Santa Marina. Marina.

The result was a sumptuous renovation of the building, which, connected to the medieval fortress by a corridor, served as an image to glorify the Duchy of Feria.

Balance and sobriety are the features that characterize the church, which, on the exterior, is made of brick, with a simple doorway on the Gospel side standing out.
