"The first reliable information found about the shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel dates back to the late 17th century.
On the outskirts of town, a group of people decided to build a small shrine to house the altar and image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and promote her worship and devotion.
What these devotees didn't know was that the site was so well chosen that, in 1967, it would become a parish church.

Currently, the parish church consists of a single nave with a barrel vault, a domed chancel, a lantern, where the main altar is located, and a front tower with an atrium in the lower section.
Inside, the life-size wooden sculpture of Christ of Light stands out. His cross is characteristic because it is from a lamppost, hence its name.
It is the work of local artist Manuel García Mancera, completed in 1968. This Christ presides over the presbytery, and to the right is the image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel."
