[EN] "The Corent oppidum, also known as the Puy de Corent oppidum, is a Gallic oppidum founded by the Arverne people. It straddles the communes of Corent and Veyre-Monton, in the Puy-de-Dôme département of Auvergne. Occupied from the third quarter of the 2nd century BC, during the La Tène finale period, from La Tène D1 to the Augustan period, it was gradually abandoned in the aftermath of the Gallic War. In Roman times, the original sanctuary was rebuilt, along with a small theater, marking the center of a new settlement that lasted until at least the 3rd century. The surface area covered by the oppidum is estimated at around 50 hectares.

Based on archaeological discoveries, the Corent oppidum is now considered to be the capital of the Arvernes until the eve of the Roman conquest, and as such could be the Nemossos mentioned by Strabo in his Geography."
