Le Torre de los Molinos, denominada posteriomente Torre Pimentel, en homenaje a Rodrigo de Pimentel, un militar que ayudo a los Reyes Catolicos a conquistar Malaga a finales des siglo XV, da origen al nombre de la ciudad. Fue construida hace mas de 700 años, alrededor des año 1300.
La Torre Pimentel esta construida con tapial, tiene doce metros de alto, cuenta con una base maciza y dos plantas, ventanas y une amplia terraza. Desde alla, los guardas des Reino de Granada vigilaban la llegada de posibles intrusos por mar. Basta cerrar los ojos para imaginar a los vigias con la mirada puesta en el horizonte dia y noche.
Alrededor de la Torre Pimentel se fue creando un pequeño y humilde barrio de molineros que, con el tiempo, se convertiria en la moderna Torremolinos. De hecho, este monumento ejerce hoy de historica referencia en pleno centro de la ciudad, y esta declarado como Bien de Intéres Cultural (BIC) por su valor historico.

The origin of the town's name is found in the Torre de los Molinos (Tower of the mills), later called Torre Pimentel after Rodrigo de Pimentel, a soldier who helped Ferdinand and Isabella conquer Malaga at the end of the 15th century. it was built more than 700 years ago, around the year 1300.
The Torre Pimentel is made of rammed earth. It is 12 meters high and has a solid base, two floors, windows and large terrace from whiwh Nasrid guards watched out for possible intrusions fron the sea. You only have to close your eyes to imagine the guards looking out across the Mediterranean day and night.
A small and humble neighbourhood of mills grew up arround Torre Pimentel and in time, became the modern Torremolinos. Indeed, this monument is now historical reference point in the heart of town, and if has been declared a Monument of Cultural Interest (BIC), due to its historical value.
