"The station is located on the Gardermo Line , 51.85 km from Oslo S and was opened in 1998. It is served by the Airport Train , Vy's local and regional trains, and SJ's long-distance trains. It is Norway's fourth largest railway station measured by the number of passengers and is owned by Bane NOR .

Location
The station is located on the Gardermo Line, 51.85 km from Oslo S, but the actual, direct distance is only 48.07 km. This is because the distance markers follow the marginally longer Hovedbanen between Oslo S and Lillestrøm . The station is built directly under the airport terminal and escalators and elevators connect the station to the terminal. North of the station, the Gardermo Line enters a tunnel under the airport and continues towards Eidsvoll. Inside this tunnel there is a turning area for the Airport Trains which are connected to tracks 2 and 3.

History
The decision to build the station, railway and airport was made by the Storting on 8 October 1992. NSB Gardermobanen AS , a separate subsidiary of the then Norwegian State Railways , was given the task of building and owning the railway and station, while also operating the airport train service when it started. The construction took place in parallel with the construction of the main airport and the station is in the same style as the rest of the airport.

The station was opened on 27 September 1998 and passenger traffic was initiated at the same time as the airport opened on 8 October 1998. As part of the reorganisation of NSB Gardermobanen, ownership of the line and station was transferred to the Norwegian National Rail Administration in 2001. From 1 January 2001, NSB Gardermobanen changed its name to Flytoget AS, and was reorganised into a separate state-owned limited liability company under the Ministry of Transport and Communications from 1 January 2003, a company which in 2004 became under the Ministry of Trade and Industry .

Gardermoen tank terminal
Just south of the station is the Gardermoen fuel terminal. Here, all aviation fuel for Oslo Airport, Gardermoen is refueled from an aviation fuel train. This train is the only freight train on the Gardermobanen and is colloquially known simply as the "paraffin train".

Facilities
The station is open 24 hours a day and is staffed between 07:00 and 22:00 with slightly reduced staffing hours on weekends. The platforms are wheelchair accessible, but not all trains are, so external ramps must be arranged to get wheelchairs on board. There are baggage trolleys and ticket machines in the station area. In addition, there are a number of other services at the airport itself, such as kiosks, a bank, police, taxis and buses.

Train traffic
Flytoget AS , SJ and Vy are the only train companies serving the station. They usually share the station's four platforms as follows:

Track 1: SJ and Vy trains in the direction of Hamar/Trondheim
Track 2: Airport train from Drammen/Oslo S
Track 3: Airport train in the direction of Oslo S/Drammen
Track 4: SJ and Vy trains in the direction of Oslo S
The airport train
The airport train has six departures per hour, three of which are direct to Oslo S. The direct departure takes 19 minutes. The remaining three departures stop at Lillestrøm before Oslo S before continuing on to Asker and Drammen. In 2007, the airport train had 5.35 million passengers.

SJ
SJ long-distance trains have five daily departures between Oslo S and Trondheim S , including the night train, and all stop at the station.

View
Vy operates two types of traffic at Gardermoen station. Local train L12 which has one departure per hour between Kongsberg via Oslo S to Eidsvoll , as well as regional train R10 which has one departure per hour from Drammen via Oslo S to Lillehammer and R11 from Skien via Oslo S to Eidsvoll."
