Great Allegheny Passage - Stewart's Crossing Trailhead - Connellsville, Pennsylvania
This trailhead, renamed and re-designed as Stewart's Crossing, is a extension project to enhance trail usage in the City of Connellsville. Implementing new facilites began in 2008, after this section of the bike trail was re-surfaced with the help of public works crews from the surrounding townships.
Next, a year-round toilet facility was installed, as well as a youth-adult-and pet frost-free water hydrant.
Furthermore, camping opportunities for through-trekkers was established by the local trail council as well as the students at the local career center by placing two Adirondack-style shelter and to top it all off a addition was made to the council's maintenance building as well as a video surveillance system.
The trail from here proceeds about fifty miles near Pittsburgh and 89 miles to Cumberland.
The Great Allegheny Passage is a 150-mile trail network connecting rail-trails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Cumberland, Maryland, where it connects to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath to Washington, D.C.
TheYough River Trail Council, governed by the Regional Trail Corporation, maintains the trail North of here to milepost 101 (Layton) and South 11 Miles to Bruner Run.
