Laut Wikipedia ist ein großer öffentlicher Park im Zentrum Münchens, der sich vom Stadtzentrum bis zur nordöstlichen Stadtgrenze erstreckt. Er wurde 1789 von Sir Benjamin Thompson (1753–1814), dem späteren Reichsgrafen von Rumford, für Prinz Karl Theodor, Kurfürst von Bayern, angelegt. Thompsons Nachfolger Reinhard von Werneck (1757–1842) und Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell (1750–1823), die das Projekt von Anfang an beratend begleiteten, erweiterten und verschönerten den Park.

Mit einer Fläche von 3,7 km² (1,4 Quadratmeilen) (370 ha oder 910 Acres) ist der Englische Garten einer der größten städtischen öffentlichen Parks der Welt. Der Name bezieht sich auf die englische Gartenform der informellen Landschaft, ein Stil, der in England seit dem Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts bis Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts und insbesondere mit Capability Brown verbunden.

According to Wikipedia, "the Englischer Garten (English Gardner) is a large public park in the centre of Munich, Bavaria, stretching from the city centre to the northeastern city limits. It was created in 1789 by Sir Benjamin Thompson (1753–1814), later Count Rumford (Reichsgraf von Rumford), for Prince Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria.
